Halloween 2024 was another busy period for the Audioserv team, and one of our biggest productions took place at Testbed Leeds, one of the city's large industrial-style music venues.
We were brought in to provide full event production for the Halloween celebrations, including a powerful Funktion-One sound system, professional event lighting and the technical expertise needed to bring everything together.
With a large audience area and a venue featuring plenty of reflective surfaces, careful sound system design was particularly important.
Our team designed and installed a complete audio and lighting package to deliver excellent sound quality throughout the venue, alongside an impressive lighting show.
Funktion-One Vero VX Sound System Hire
For the main sound system, we selected our Funktion-One Vero VX, a high-performance system designed to deliver exceptional clarity, controlled coverage and powerful sound.
Testbed's large industrial space presented some acoustic challenges, particularly when it came to controlling unwanted reverberation.
In a venue of this size, simply installing a powerful sound system isn't enough. Loudspeaker placement, dispersion and timing are all important factors in achieving consistent coverage.
We designed the system to direct as much sound as possible towards the audience while reducing unnecessary reflections from the building.
The main PA consisted of Funktion-One Vero VX array cabinets, accompanied by Funktion-One F124 subwoofers.
The subwoofers were arranged in a time-aligned broadside horizontal array, helping to deliver powerful, controlled bass across the main audience area.

Funktion-One Evolution X Delay Systems
One of the main challenges at Testbed was ensuring that everyone experienced consistent sound quality, regardless of where they were standing.
Rather than relying entirely on the main PA system to cover the full length of the venue, we installed two additional sets of flown delay speakers.
These used Funktion-One Evolution X loudspeakers, positioned to extend the sound coverage further into the audience area.
The rear delay position was also supported by Funktion-One F121 subwoofers, arranged in a cardioid ground-stacked configuration.
This allowed us to provide additional low-frequency energy towards the rear of the venue while maintaining better control over where that energy travelled.
By carefully aligning the delay systems with the main PA, we were able to create more consistent sound coverage throughout the space.
All the sound systems were powered by Linea Research amplification, providing the performance and control required for a production of this scale.
Professional Event Lighting at Testbed Leeds
Alongside the audio production, we supplied a comprehensive professional lighting system designed to complement the music and create an exciting atmosphere throughout the venue.
With the large industrial space providing plenty of room for lighting effects, our lighting engineer had an excellent opportunity to create something visually impressive.
We used a combination of professional BeamZ lighting fixtures, including powerful moving head beams, LED strobe panels, blinders and LED wash lights.
The moving beams were particularly effective in the large space, producing bright, defined shafts of light that travelled across the audience.
Creating the Halloween Atmosphere
The lighting design featured a mixture of fixtures that could produce everything from subtle colour washes to intense beam and strobe effects.
Our lighting package included:
- BeamZ professional moving head beam fixtures
- High-output LED strobe panels
- Professional stage blinders
- LED wash lighting
- A large suspended mirror ball
The combination allowed our lighting engineer to change the atmosphere throughout the event, using different colours, movements and effects to complement the music.

A Mirror Ball Takes Centre Stage
One of the standout visual features of the Halloween production was the large mirror ball suspended above the audience.
Positioned prominently within the venue, it became a central part of the lighting design.
By directing beams towards the rotating mirror ball, our lighting engineer was able to create hundreds of moving reflections across the venue.
It was a simple but incredibly effective feature that worked particularly well alongside the powerful moving head lighting.
The combination of the mirror ball, moving beams and atmospheric lighting helped transform the industrial venue into an impressive space for the Halloween celebrations.
Experienced Audio and Lighting Engineers
Supplying the right equipment is only part of a successful event production.
Having experienced engineers on site is just as important, particularly when working with large sound systems and complex lighting installations.
Our technical team was responsible for setting up and operating the production equipment, ensuring the different systems worked together throughout the event.
