When England reached the latter stages of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Green Room in Leeds wanted to give football fans an even better viewing experience. Having previously used two projectors to show the matches, the venue was looking for something bigger, brighter and more impressive for the final stages of the tournament.
Audioserv was approached by Will, the owner of Green Room, to provide a large outdoor screen for the venue's upper terrace. After discussing the available space and installation requirements, we recommended our new 2.9mm pixel pitch LED video wall, configured as a 3m wide by 2m high display.
The result was a fantastic 6m² screen that transformed the terrace into a dedicated World Cup viewing area for the final two weeks of the competition.
Choosing the Right LED Screen
One of the main considerations was providing a display that would offer a noticeable improvement over the existing projector setup.
While projectors can be a great solution for many events, an LED video wall offers several advantages, particularly when a large screen is required in an outdoor environment.
Our recently acquired 2.9mm pixel pitch LED video wall was an ideal choice for Green Room. Its fine pixel pitch produces a detailed picture, making it particularly suitable for venues where customers may be viewing the screen from relatively close distances.
With a finished screen size of 3m x 2m, the display provided a substantial viewing area without overwhelming the available terrace space.
A Bespoke Truss Structure for a Safe Installation
With such a large screen being installed in a public area, safety was one of our most important considerations.
The upper terrace presented a few challenges, particularly as the screen would be exposed to outdoor conditions throughout its two-week hire period.
Rather than simply positioning the screen on a temporary stand, we constructed a bespoke aluminium truss support structure incorporating 3m uprights.
The LED video wall was mounted directly onto this structure, which was then additionally secured to the existing iron staircase behind the screen.
This provided additional stability and helped us address the challenges of positioning a large video wall on an exposed outdoor terrace.
Careful planning of the supporting structure was an essential part of the installation, ensuring the screen could be positioned correctly while taking account of the surrounding environment.
High-Quality Video Processing with NovaStar
To handle the video signal, we used one of our NovaStar VX600 LED video processors.
The VX600 managed the incoming video source and delivered the signal to the LED screen over its network connections.
Combined with the fine 2.9mm pixel pitch of the display, the result was an incredibly detailed picture that looked fantastic across the full 3m x 2m screen.
The finished installation provided exactly the visual impact Green Room had been looking for, giving customers a much larger and more engaging way to enjoy the World Cup matches.
Two Weeks of World Cup Football at Green Room
The screen remained at Green Room for two weeks and was used exclusively for showing the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
It was great to see our equipment being used in a busy Leeds venue, particularly for an event that brought so many football supporters together.
Will and the team at Green Room were extremely happy with the finished installation, and we're delighted that we could provide a solution that met their requirements.
We're already looking forward to the possibility of working with Green Room again for the next European Championship!
